Happy New Year everyone! 2024 is finally here, and with the new year comes new reading challenges. These won’t be much different than what I’ve done in the past, but since I did so well last year, I wanted to keep going with the progress that I made in 2023. So here’s what we’re going to be working with.
GoodReads Challenge: This one is here to stay. For 2024, I think I am going to set an initial goal of 75 books. Last year, I had set the goal of 100 books, and although I came very close to making that goal, I also felt a bit burned out as the year went on, which lead to reading slumps. I felt like I was in a rush for most of the time and I didn’t like that feeling. Too much pressure. 75 is still a pretty robust goal, and if I exceed it, that’s even better.ย

Complete the Series: I was so excited last year, as it was the first time I set a series goal and actually achieved it. Let’s keep the energy going into 2024.
For anyone who doesn’t know what this goal is, I have several series where I’ve only read the first book and then never went on to finish the rest of the series. I actually went through this list last month and pared it down a bit – there were some series on there that I didn’t really have a desire to read further and, in the interest of time, decided to go ahead and take them off. This leaves me with 20 series to work on and, for this year, I would like to complete 6 of them. That’s what I did last year and I hope to do so again.

Beat the Backlist: This is another one that I’m bringing back this year because I did so well last year with it. This challenge is hosted by Austine Decker and the goal is to try and whittle down your TBR. Right now, I have 21 physical books and 108 ebooks that I own that I have not read yet. Yes, I am aware that this is a problem. I blame Book Bub – I got so many free ebooks from them several years ago and was never able to read even a fraction of them. Like last year, I would like to try and read 25 books off of these lists, probably focusing more on the ebooks because there are just so darn many.

A-to-Z Reading Challenge: This one was so much fun last year that I will be doing it again in 2024. I will be doing an A to Z Reading Challenge, attempting to read a book beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Articles do not count (so I wonโt have a million books with โtheโ). I really enjoyed how this one let me find books that I maybe wouldn’t have picked up before, just because I needed something that started with the letter X.ย
There will be other challenges coming up. I want to start participating in the Seasonal Reading Challenge over on GoodReads again at some point, just because it’s fun, and there may be some other readathons that I participate in to help keep my motivation up (the Reindeer Readathon helped me SO MUCH during December). If you want to see how my goals are going, you can check out the 2024 Reading Challenges tab. I try to update that as I go, although I do sometimes forget to.
Wishing all of you a wonderful and productive 2024!
