Hello everyone! I am so excited that I will be participating in the Reindeer Readathon this year! I thought this would be fun in order to try and jumpstart my blogging back up and also to finish the year strong with my reading goals. This readathon runs through the month of December and is a bit of a competition between five teams to see who can earn the most points. We earn points for our teams by completing reading prompts, which I will explain below as well as show you my TBR.
Also, I am proudly representing Team Nutcracker, lead by Christine and Monique from The Roomies’ Digest.
As for the prompts, here is what we are working with:
There are also bonuses that you can attach to the prompt if you meet those requirements:
Am I going to try and get all the points? Of course I am! Have you met me!
I sat down to plan out my TBR to make sure that I would follow all of the prompts, as well as still work towards my last few reading goals. Here is what I am going to do, as of right now.
- DASHER: One of the words I picked out of the word search was “bone,” so I will be reading The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco. This book has been on my radar for a while now, so I’m very excited to read it. I will also be claiming the CHRISTMAS LIGHTS bonus by reading it as an ebook.
- DANCER: I will be reading A Danger to Herself and Others by Alyssa Sheinmel. Definitely has 5+ words in the title, and also works towards my “Beat the Backlist” challenge.
- PRANCER: I will be reading Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. According to GoodReads, this book takes place in Vancouver and also on the Moon, and I have definitely never been to either of those places. This also goes towards “Beat the Backlist.”
- VIXEN: I will be reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I have had this book for so long, even started it a few times, but just never got around to actually reading it. Another “Beat the Backlist” book.
- COMET: I am a Capricorn, so I am choosing to read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. This is another book that has been on my radar forever and I love Holly Black, so looking forward to this one too.
- CUPID: I am doing a reread for this one, since I wanted to make sure to find a book with multiple narrators, so I am reading Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I’m also going to borrow the audio book for this one to claim the CHRISTMAS CAROLS bonus. I don’t usually do audio books because I have a difficult time concentrating on them, but since this is a reread, I think it will be easier to keep up with.
- DONNER: I will be reading Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. There are several birds on the cover. I am also claiming the CHRISTMAS TREE bonus since this is not a book that I would normally read, especially since I’ve stopped writing.
- BLITZEN: I got so lucky for this prompt – I rolled a 3! I will be reading Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle, which is 352 pages long. This is the only book so far that is actually a Christmas book lol. I’m also claiming the CHRISTMAS ELF bonus on this one because it’s been on my shelf for a WHILE. Which means it also go towards “Beat the Backlist” – yay!
- RUDOLPH: I went for a 2023 book, just because I figured it would be easier to find something I would like. I decided on Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros, which just came out in November, so it definitely counts. Plus, I read Fourth Wing earlier this year and absolutely loved it. I am also claiming the CHRISTMAS STAR bonus on this one because it is definitely over 500 pages.
If I get through all of those and can try for the SLEIGHING IT bonus, I will redo the COMET prompt and read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. A classic, a favorite, seasonally appropriate, and best of all . . . it’s short.
So that’s my TBR! I am really excited about this, as it’s been a while since I’ve participated in a readathon. This one so far has 900 people participating this year. It should be lots of fun and also help me break out of the holiday blues which are already starting (and it’s not even December yet). There is still time to sign up today if you want to join, but I don’t think you can sign up after November 30th.
Wish me luck!
